How to clear the cache on iPhone/iPad

Some users have encountered problems the first time they use the FT web app when offline. This is often caused by an issue with the Safari browser which we hope will be fixed soon, but in the meantime you can follow these steps to rectify the issue.

Step 1 - Open the Safari settings

Tap on the Settings icon on your device - it may be along the bottom of the screen or anywhere else on the homescreen, depending on where you've chosen to keep it.

Once Settings is open, tap on 'Safari' in the left-hand list of options

#

Step 2 - Clear your cache

On the right of the screen will be a list of different options and settings for Safari. One part of the screen will show 3 options for 'Clear History', 'Clear Cookies' and 'Clear Cache'. Tap on just the third option, 'Clear cache'

#

Step 3 - Restart device

Once the steps above have been completed, you'll just need to restart you device. To do this, hold down the physical 'Power' button on the top right edge of you iPhone or iPad for several seconds until the red arrow appears next to the words 'Slide to power off'. Slide the arrow to the right and the device will power down.

After a few seconds, the screen will go blank and the device will be switched off. Simply press the 'Power' button again to turn on.

You should now be able to open the FT web app and use it with no further problems. If problems do persist, then try the above process again, making sure not to miss any steps out. If you still have problems then contact our support teams by email on appfeedback@ft.com.
